Another great lesson! I have also come to realize that love is the greatest of all the gifts of God and the most powerful and that it is the hallmark of a true follower of Christ. Like you pointed out, it absolutely requires suffering and the sacrifice of self and that is a very hard choice to make consciously, especially at first. I do believe that there are many who do make that choice, although they may not realize fully that they choose to make it in all circumstances, especially as they grow in agape love. As one matures in agape love, it may become more “natural” or easier to choose to love their enemies, to sacrificial service, and awareness of other’s needs over self. Of course, all situations calling for love are not equal and some will be very difficult.
